Honeybirds are endemic to southeastern Australia, where they mainly eat eucalyptus nectar, and now fewer than 300 live sparsely in more than 10 times the area of the Korean Peninsula.
The endangered species honeybirds, designated as an emergency species on the World Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List, are repeating a vicious cycle of losing their own singing and becoming more seriously endangered. Just as humans learn how to walk and talk from their parents when they are young, young honeybirds listen to and follow the singing of adult birds, because the number of adult honeybirds to teach them has decreased significantly.
